About the Awards

The Research Awards Program, sponsored by the University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. (UGARF). UGARF recognizes excellence in UGA research and scholarly creativity. Awards are given annually to honor outstanding faculty and graduate students.

UGARF is a nonprofit corporation created to serve the University of Georgia and enhance its excellence as a research institution. UGARF holds the University’s intellectual property, including patents, and serves as the official grantee of all contracts, grants, and gifts for the conduct of sponsored research at UGA.

Creative Research Awards

Distinguished Research Professors

The title of Distinguished Research Professor is awarded to faculty who are internationally recognized for their original contributions to knowledge and whose work promises to foster continued creativity in their discipline.

Creative Research Medals

Creative Research Medals are awarded for outstanding research or creative activity within the past five years that focuses on a single theme idenitfied with the University of Georgia.

Inventor’s Award

The Inventor’s Award recognizes an inventor for a unique and innovative discovery that has made an impact on the community.

Georgia BioBusiness Academic Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Established in 2010, the Georgia BioBusiness Academic Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes a faculty member who has started a company within the past four years based on research originated at UGA.

Postdoctoral Research Awards

Created in 2011, Postdoctoral Research Awards recognize the remarkable contributions of postdoctoral research scholars to the UGA research enterprise.  The UGA Research Foundation funds up to two awards a year to current scholars.
